Review of Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub

The Hoover FloorMate Spinscrub is a wet/dry vacuum cleaner that has a 15 inch cleaning path. It vacuums, washes, and dries hard flooring surfaces with the flip of the dial. It can be used to vacuum dry debris and to wet clean hard floor surfaces such as marble, sealed wood, laminate, vinyl, and tile. It comes with a number of onboard tools for easy cleaning for different types of surfaces, including grout brushes and attachments, to reach tough to get places.

The spin scrub is backed by a one year manufacturer’s warranty. It weighs approx 30 lbs, and is available from internet retailers from about $165.00.

Hoover FloorMate Features:

  • EZ Select Dial
  • Dual tanks
  • Easy storage
  • Removable brushes

EZ Select Dial:

The EZ Select Dial selects which cleaning mode you want the SpinScrub to be in. The recommended order of cleaning is to dry vacuum the floor first, to clear the surface of any loose debris such as animal hair, dust, dirt etc. The brushes will not rotate in this mode. Turning the dial to “wet clean” turns the brushes on to a light agitation to help loosen any debris. The last step is to “wet pickup” which squeegees the floor, and helps reduce drying time.

Dual Tanks:

The Floor Mate is constructed with dual tanks. There is a tank for the cleaning solution, and a separate tank for the dirty water. You never put dirty water on your floor like you might if you were mopping with a mop and mop bucket.

Easy Storage:

The Spinscrub is cleverly designed with a folding handle that makes the machine more compact to store when not in use. It also has a caddy for all the cleaning attachments that fits over the cleaner nozzle for storage. Accessories and vacuum are basically attached together when stored – no more hunting around the house for misplaced parts!

Removable Brushes:

The Hoover Floor Mate and grout brushes are removable and interchangeable. You have the option of choosing which brush works best for the job. The brushes, since they are removable, can be detached from the vacuum for easier cleaning and maintenance.

The Spinscrub also comes equipped with a telescoping wand and a swivel head attachment to clean tough to reach areas. This feature allows you to easily clean small, hard to reach areas, such as behind the toilet. The telescoping wand extends to about 8 feet.

Hoover FloorMate Recommendations:

Pros

Most reviewers were very happy with the way the Hoover Floormate Spinscrub worked. The comments ranged from the product doing exactly what it was advertised to do, and it has the bonus of being a work saver and a back saver. No more cleaning floors on hands and knees, and no more dealing with a mop and mop bucket. Almost all the reviewers thought that the dual tanks were a great idea. No more putting dirty water on a surface you are trying to clean.

Cons

The only negative comments on the Spinscrub were that you have to stop and empty the dirty water tank regularly. The dirty water and the clean water tanks only have a 32 ounce capacity. You also have to work your way across the floor fairly slowly in order for the machine to do a good job.

Review of Pullman Holt Floor Scrubber

Pullman Holt is a manufacturer of commercial machines that have the ability to scrub and polish hard surface floors, as well as strip, sand and grind. They also have the capability to clean carpeting by the shampoo and bonnet method. These machines are used primarily in hospitals, hotels, amusements parks, retail shopping areas, and other venues.

They make a number of different models, with different diameters of the disc/brush spread, and varying degrees of horsepower. The diameters range from 16 inches to 20 inches. Some models also have motors that have dual speeds.

The Pullman-Holt commercial buffing machine starts at about $499, and weighs over 100 lbs. These machines come with a 1 year warranty on parts and labor, and a 3 year warranty on the gearbox and motor.

Pullman Holt Floor Scrubber and Polisher Features:

  • Dual dead man switch
  • 50 foot power cord
  • Adjustable stainless steel handle
  • Powder coated body
  • Heavy duty motor canopy

Dual Dead man Switch:

50 Foot Power Cord:

All models have a 50 foot power cord. Greater areas can be cleaned without looking for an electric outlet.

Adjustable Stainless Steel Handle:

The Pullman-Holt floor machines are built with a tubular stainless steel handle. This means one machine can be shared among multiple users.

Powder Coated Body:

All models of the Pullman-Holt are powder coated. This finish is chip resistant, and provides protection from corrosion. The unit is manufactured from cast aluminum.

All machines are rotary, and the brush speed is approx 175 rpm. Another feature of this machine is the non-marking 5 inch solid wheels, which makes transporting the polisher for storage relatively easy. The Pullman-Holt also has a wide variety of pads available for separate purchase. There are carpet bonnets, stripping pads, polishing pads and cleaning pads available for almost any cleaning/polishing/stripping use.

Review of Tomcat Floor Scrubber

The Tomcat is a commercial/industrial automatic floor scrubber. It is a battery operated walk behind machine or also available as a ride on machine. These machines are designed to clean the floors in large buildings, such as warehouses, car dealerships, factories, malls, and schools. The Magnum series features battery powered machines with 30 gallon tanks. There are a couple of different styles to choose from with the Tomcat. There are the “disk” machines, and the “cylindrical” machines.

The Tomcat has a few different options for scrub paths. The machines are available with a 26”, 30” and 34” scrub path. The higher the scrub path the more square feet per hour can be cleaned.

The price for the Tomcat varies from about $8400 – $10,700 plus the cost of additional equipment if necessary. The Tomcat has a 1 year warranty on labor, a 3 year warranty on parts, and a 10 year warranty on the tanks.

Tomcat Floor Scrubber Features:

  • Built tough
  • Productivity
  • Central command system
  • Scrubber/sweeper combination

Built Tough:

Tomcat industrial floor cleaners are manufactured in the USA out of heavy duty parts. The frame is constructed out of 7 gauge steel, and in the Magnum series, all fasteners are 100% stainless steel. The scrub head is protected by steel bumpers. The tank walls are extra- thick polyurethane; at 3/8 inch thickness, they are the thickest walled tank in the industry.

Productivity:

Tomcat floor scrubbers are built with scrub paths ranging from 29-34”. The larger the scrub path, the more surface area can be covered in one pass and fewer trips are required down the same aisle. The machines also have a large battery pack, which means they can run for longer, without stopping to be recharged. Typically the battery lasts about 5 hours worth of run time, if they become too low, all systems except “transport” automatically shut down so the operator can return the machine to the charging station. The Tomcat is also constructed with large tanks, up to 40% larger than some of its competitors, meaning less stopping to refill.

There are two different types of machines. There is the “disk” version, which uses a gimbaled mounted disk drive to conform to the flooring types. And then there is the “cylindrical” version, which also has the ability to sweep up debris while scrubbing. With this type of machine, the need to dust mop prior to scrubbing may be eliminated, thus increasing productivity.

Central Command Center:

The command center consists of a LCD readout, and 3 different hour meters. These meters help monitor machine use, and are for transport, key switch on, and scrubbing. The LCD also gives error messages, which helps in trouble shooting. The Tomcat has over 150 programmable features. The command center itself is sealed for protection against water. There are five settings for brush pressure which is maintained by the command center.

Scrubber/Sweeper Combinations:

The Tomcats that are the scrubber/sweeper combinations are built with 2 cylindrical brushes. They come in scrub paths of 26”, 30” and 34”. These 2 brushes sweep and scrub simultaneously, saving you time and money. A few of the items this machine will pick up are broken glass, nails, wood chips, and gravel.

Tomcat Floor Scrubber Recommendations:

One client wrote in to Tomcat and let them know how pleased they were with the cylindrical version. He thought it was a great machine that had many standard features, and sure to please other users. He was especially impressed with the Tomcats construction, including the bumper that protects the hoses and squeegee. He was also happy with the way the Tomcat cleaned; it removed all the tire marks left by the forklifts. One of the optional features he really liked was the soap dispensing system. This system eliminates the need for mixing chemicals, and is safer for the operator (no splash accidents while mixing heavy duty cleaning chemicals). He was also impressed with the drain plug. Imagine, a drain plug that stays put and is attached to the top of the tank. No more messy accidents or make work projects!

Review of Oreck Orbiter 550

The Oreck Orbiter 550 is a multi-purpose machine that is intended for commercial use. It can scrub, strip, wax, buff, sand, refinish, and clean any floor surface. The Orbiter is safe for use on marble, vinyl, wood, and carpet flooring. On carpeting, the Orbiter loosens embedded soil in the carpet for vacuuming.

The Orbiter has an upright design, with finger tip controls located on the handle.

The Orbiter is priced from $440, and comes with a 1 year warranty. The unit weighs about 24 lbs.

Oreck Orbiter 550 Features

  • 13 inch path
  • Use on any floor surface
  • Finger tip on/off switch
  • Unique orbital action

13 inch Cleaning Path

The Oreck Orbiter features a large, 13 inch cleaning path. The large path means less cleaning time needed since the Orbiter covers a lot of surface area in just one sweep.

Use on Any Floor Surface

The Orbiter 550 is manufactured for use on many different flooring types, and there are a number of different accessories available for purchase to compliment all flooring types. There are 60 grit, 80 grit and 100 grit sand screens available to allow for sanding and refinishing wood floors.

There are terry cloth bonnets for gentle cleaning and lamb’s wool bonnets for polishing and shining. There are 3 color coded pads that have specific scrubbing applications. There is also a marble pad designed specifically for cleaning and restoring marble.

The Orbiter 550 also has a number of brushes available that are designed to get into the grooves of uneven flooring surfaces. The brushes are also color coded, black is the softest, for safe use on carpets, and orange is the hardest, for use on tough stains, and hard flooring such as concrete.

Fingertip On/Off Switch

The Orbiter has a “t” style handle bar, with the on/off switch located on the handle. This means the unit is incredible easy to turn on, one bump with your finger, and you are ready to go.

Unique Orbital Action

The Oreck’s unique orbital action provides oscillating cleaning and buffing power that reaches all areas of the floor, right to the baseboards. The Oreck Orbiter is powered by a ¾ hp motor. The orbital action means no undesirable swirl marks, no brush marks, or gouges are caused.

Oreck Orbiter 550 Recommendations

Pros:

This is a well built machine, built by an American company. Oreck says “Try any product risk free for 30 days in your own home, on your toughest cleaning areas. If you don’t love it, you don’t keep it”.

It is a precision machine suitable for many different flooring types, and multiple purposes.

Cons:

Vacuuming and or sweeping are required before you can use the Orbiter.

Some scrubbing by hand may be required in corners and around door jambs.

Some splashing may occur on walls when scrubbing with the Orbiter – thus creating another project. Walls may need some touch up cleaning.

It seems a little complicated. There are a number bonnets, pads and brushes. The right accessory must be used with the right flooring so that the flooring is not damaged. It seems you’d have to be very careful, and be very familiar with the accessories, so that you didn’t use the wrong one.

Accessories, especially brushes, should be removed prior to storing the Orbiter. Otherwise the weight of the machine could damage and distort the bristles.

Review of Sebo Disco Floor Polisher

The Sebo Disco Floor Polisher is a polisher head that attaches to a Sebo canister vacuum – the only models it works with are the Sebo Felix, the Airbelt K3, or the Airbelt C3.1. The Disco uses Ultra High Speed (UHS) technology to polish floors and the suction of the vacuum sucks away the fine dust created by the polishing action.

The Disco has a machine width of 13 inches, and a working width of about 12 inches. It comes with 4 different floor pads, for use on different flooring types. The pads are color coded so that the operator chooses the right pad for the right floor.

The Sebo Disco is priced from about $369, and is available in a variety of colors. (*note: the appropriate vacuum that the Disco attaches to is sold separately!) The Disco weighs about 8.5 lbs. It is backed by a 1 year limited warranty.

Sebo Disco Floor Polisher Features:

  • Agile and easy to operate
  • Automatic height positioning of the maintenance pad
  • High gloss shine
  • Attaches to a vacuum

Agile and Easy to Operation:

The Sebo Disco is agile and easy to operate, is about the width of a vacuum, and can get it spaces similar to where a vacuum can reach. It is much smaller than other industrial sized floor polishers. The Disco is constructed with bumpers to protect furniture, walls, or other obstructions, and has 3 rubber coated castor wheels to protect the flooring surface. Also contributing to the Disco’s agility is the swivel neck which is flexible and highly maneuverable.

Automatic Height Positioning:

The Sebo Disco Floor Polisher has a feature which allows it to automatically detect changes in the height of the flooring, and adjust the floor pad accordingly. The rotation of the floor pad is also continually monitored for the best adjustment depending on the floor type.

High Gloss Shine:

The high shine that the Sebo Disco produces requires no water, chemicals, or polishing sands. The results are due to the Disco’s unique pad system. There are 4 different color coded pads which each have a specific purpose. The red pad removes deep scratches and smooths the floor surface. Next, a yellow pad is used. This further prepares the surface. The last step in the process is to use the green pad on the floor, which creates the high shine. The blue pad is used to maintain soft floor coatings such as wax on hard surface floors.

Also contributing to the high gloss shine is the Ultra-High-Speed technology. The Disco’s pads revolve at a whooping 2000 revolutions per minute.

Attaches to a Sebo Vacuum:

The fact that the Sebo Disco attaches to the vacuum makes it a serious cleaning tool. While the Disco’s pads rotate and shine, fine dust particles are picked up by the vacuum, instead of being dispersed into the air. The Disco has a safety feature, where if there is a blockage in suction, or a disc obstruction, the machine will automatically shut off.

Sebo Disco Floor Polisher Recommendations:

If you already own a Sebo vacuum, the Disco complements your vacuum by turning it into a commercial quality polisher for hard floor surfaces. The obvious drawback is, if you don’t already own the vacuum, you’d have to purchase it as well. If you aren’t in the market for a vacuum, the Disco wouldn’t even be an item to consider.

The Disco is not recommended for the following flooring types:

  • Glazed, ceramic, and porcelain tiles
  • Porous tiles. Examples are slate and terracotta
  • Cushioned vinyl, linoleum, laminate or any other flooring type which is not well bonded to the sub floor
  • Any floor with textured or uneven surfaces
  • Tile floor with raised edges
  • Floors with maintenance free coatings
  • Any floor where a glossy finish is not desired

If in doubt, check with the flooring manufacture.

Review of Pullman Holt Buffer

The Gloss Boss Buffer is a floor buffing machine manufactured for residential use. It’s a lightweight buffer designed to clean, shine, buff and protect numerous residential flooring types including concrete, vinyl, laminate, tile and hardwoods. The Gloss Boss Buffer can be used with your choice of household cleaner or stain remover, just spray the area, and then put the Gloss Boss’s twin nylon brushes to work.

The Gloss Boss has heavy duty wheels which allow it to easily negotiate around furniture, and an 18 foot cord. For easy use, the Boss has a foot-activated power release pedal.

The Gloss Boss is available for about $100 at online retailers, and weighs about 7 pounds. It is backed by a one year warranty.

Pullman Holt Gloss Boss Buffer Features:

  • Lightweight
  • Twin rotating nylon brushes
  • Affordable
  • Foot-activated power release pedal
  • Accessory’s include 2 microfiber scrubbing pads, 2 micro fiber polishing bonnets, and 4 buffing pads

Weight:

The Gloss Boss weighs about 7 lbs, but is well constructed. The motor housing is made of rugged ABS plastic, and the handle is manufactured out of steel. The light weight design makes it easy to maneuver around furniture and objects, without giving up cleaning power. (At 7 lbs, this machine weighs less than most vacuum cleaners.)

Twin Rotating Nylon Brushes:

The Gloss Boss Buffer has 2 rotating nylon brushes. The brushes counter-rotate at 470 rpm, giving a premium, high torque, deep cleaning experience.

Pricing:

Priced at about $100, this is a quality product at a reasonable price. The Gloss Boss can be used with any of your favorite spray cleaning solutions. The Gloss Boss can also be used on carpeted flooring to remove stains– it may dispense with the need for other costly carpet cleaning equipment.

Foot Activated Power Release Pedal:

The motor of the Gloss Boss turns on by simply tapping the foot pedal, and lowering the handle.

Accessories for the Gloss Boss:

The Gloss Boss comes with 2 microfiber pads. Microfiber is fantastic for attracting and trapping dirt and dust. It also comes with 4 felt pads which are anti-scratch and anti- swirl. These pads polish harden waxed floors to beautiful shine. The 2 carpet bonnets provide easy cleaning of carpets and rugs.

Pullman Holt Gloss Boss Buffer Recommendations:

Most reviewers thought this was a great machine for its size and price. The buffer is small enough that it is easy to store in a closet when not in use. Because it is lightweight, it is easily used by smaller adults. The pads are washable and reusable, which reviewers really liked.

One reviewer wrote: “What amazed me was the power, it was quick, rotates like a large buffer you see office cleaning people use. It got the job done.”

The only negative comment from a reviewer was that he thought it wasn’t heavy enough, but he liked the fact that it was easy to use.

Review of MotorScrubber

Are you looking for a powerful rotary scrubbing tool? How about a rotary scrubber that is completely portable? The Motorscrubber is that, and more. Its brush head is immersible, and the tool itself is lightweight, portable, and some models have a telescoping handle so you can reach more of your cleaning projects with less equipment. No need to go find that ladder!

The MotorScrubber is lightweight, and weighs less than 4.5 lbs. It is completely portable; it operates on 12 volt DC current.

The MotorScrubber comes with a one year manufacturer’s warranty, and is priced about $319 from internet dealers.

MotorScrubber Features:

  • 12 volt DC (only) operated unit
  • Completely portable
  • Lightweight
  • Immersible brush head
  • 70 degree pivoting scrub head
  • Accessories

12 Volt DC Operated Unit:

All MotorScrubber models are 12 volt DC only. (you cannot use AC current). There are some nice power options with the models. You can go completely portable and run off the rechargeable battery, or you have the option of a cigarette lighter adapter, or a 12 volt battery adapter. The battery lasts about 4 hours of intermittent use, and takes approximately 10 hours to recharge.

Portability:

The MotorScrubbers all come with a battery, a battery charger, and a battery harness. This means you can take the tool to all your cleaning projects, no need to trip over an extension cord!

Weight:

The MotorScrubber is also a lightweight piece of cleaning equipment. The MotorScrubber itself weights around 4.5 lbs, and the battery weighs an additional 7 lbs. The harness and battery are worn backpack style, so back strain is reduced or eliminated.

Immersible Brush Head:

The rotary brush head is immersible, (but the manufacturer does caution against submerging the MotorScrubber for long periods of time). This makes it a great piece of equipment for tackling the scum line on your pool or hot tub. It is also ideal as a substitute for a mop or scrub brush.

70 Degree Pivoting Scrub Head:

The pivoting scrub head follows the surfaces, edges and boundaries of the surface of what you are cleaning. This helps eliminate the need for multiple passes, and cuts down on the elbow grease required.

Accessories and Models:

The MotorScrubber has a number of accessories that are available for use with it. There is a light duty brush (MS1038), which is designed for delicate surfaces such as marble, glass vinyl and painted surfaces. The padholder disc (MS1046), is a Velcro style disc that secures pads to the MotorScrubber. There is a polishing pad (MS1060) available, to gently polish marble, tile and wood surfaces. The stripping pad (MS1066) is used for light scouring of many surfaces.

The MotorScrubber is manufactured with a few different handle options. The MS1000-HH is a hand held unit, that has a soft grip handle, but cannot “telescope” the way some of the other models can.

The MS 1000-SH is a short handled version, the 30 inch handle can telescope an additional 5 feet.

The Standard MotorScrubber ( MS1000) has a 48 inch handle and can extend up to an additional 8 feet.

There is also the MotorScrubber plus (MS1505NE), which has the same characteristics as the MS1000. In addition, it comes with a built in cleaning solution tank and dispenser. Also included is a bonus aggressive duty brush with built in splash guard. The aggressive duty brush is designed for heavy duty use, and the splash guard means you can scrub away without annoying backsplash on your shoes or pant legs!

MotorScrubber Recommendations:

The recommendations from purchasers were all positive. Comments ranged from “it’s the best all round tool where manual labor is required” to “scuff marks eliminated in seconds” Schools find these are great time and back savers. Walls, behind toilets, and urinals are easily cleaned, without the indignity of being on a person’s hands and knees.

The machine is lightweight, quiet, and easy to use. Another positive is that the fear of electrocution when working with water and power tools is eliminated. There is no electric cord dragging on a wet floor.

The scrub width of the machine is about 20 cm or slightly less than 8 inches. This could be a minor drawback. This about half the width of a normal vacuum path.

Koblenz P820 Floor Buffer Recommendations:

The reviews were overall positive. There were some comments on small issues but as a whole the consumers were pleased with the purchase and thought the Koblenz did a great job with this model. One consumer stated that they did research and came to the conclusion “I have 200 sq feet of Italian tile flooring that took me 8 hours to hand scrub to get looking clean (cleaning the grout was especially troubling).I realized this near-industrial tool was what I needed”. It cut their time, saved their knees and gave professional results.

One reviewer wrote that “this floor buffer will last forever and doesn’t seem to wear out”.

Most people agree that it is very easy to set up and use and will definitely save time and energy.

It was mentioned by some owners that there is not enough weight to push the brushes into all the grooves. Some use a little added “foot” pressure and that seems to do the trick.

A reviewer wanted to make potential buyers aware and stated “this machine is a SCRUBBER. It will lay down liquid for you and scrub for you, but it won’t remove the liquid. For tile floors you’ll have to mop up the liquid yourself. For carpets, you vacuum the cleaning residue”.

For the price and features it will save space having only one machine and do a beautiful job on your hard surface floors.

Koblenz P1800 Commercial Polisher Recommendations:

One commenter wrote: We have hickory hard wood floors and ceramic tile floors all throughout our home. These floors are very nice and look beautiful but up keep is never ending, time consuming and labor intensive.

To avoid many hours of mopping and cleaning I thought I would give the Koblenz Commercial Polisher P-1800 a try. I am still singing praises!. The design is awesome, it works very well. All our floors are kept so bright looking and the time we saved is unbelievable. We are always rushed in our lives and this machine has saved us. The one improvement would be to have a longer cord on it, other than that it worked wonders.

Another reviewer wrote: “Ok for the money. It’ll last me forever considering the number of times I will be using it. I do not consider it suitable for large areas or repetitive use.”

One mother of young children wrote that she opted to purchase the Koblenz Commercial Polisher because she loves her children but can’t stand the sticky floors. She wanted to have a clean, shiny floor again and didn’t have enough time in the day to scrub and buff her floors the way she likes them. She has owned the polisher for a few months and loves to using it.
